The proof of concept with the NYC Department of Finance is designed to anchor up to 500,000 New York City condominium records on blockchain.

The project also provides for those records to be presented through a public portal.

In New York, deed fraud is commonly called deed theft: a forged transfer that changes the recorded ownership of a home without the owner’s authorization. Cryptographic signatures and a verifiable record history can make unauthorized changes easier to detect. The project examines whether detection and review can move earlier in the process, from litigation after a fraudulent transfer to the point of recording.
